A little about me...

Growing up I’ve always been drawing, right up to Secondary School (Stanley Tech, 1994-1999) where I was introduced to art more properly and also design technology. Here I explored all areas of art and worked on technical drawings and created scale models in DT. While at school I decided I really wanted a career in some form of art and design. After completing my GCSE’s I continued my education at college.

I started a BTEC National Diploma in Graphic Design at College (Croydon College, 1999-2001) the first year of this course was very traditional, with all our design work done by hand. We also done projects in still life drawing, animation, life drawing and photography (my first experience of developing photos in a darkroom) We were introduced to computer based graphic design at the end of the first year and this continued throughout the whole of the second year, but we were encouraged to continue with traditional methods as well. At college I started using Adobe Photoshop, Quark and Macromedia Freehand. At the end of the course I wanted to explore computer based design more, so I started my search for a University Degree.

The course I found was a BA in Design for Interactive Media, and my minor would be Digital Animation. (Thames Valley, 2001-2004) This was a 3 year course that covered a huge spectrum of digital based design. Some of the area we covered are Web Design, Flash and Director design, Interactive Design, Presentations, DVD Production, Game Design and 3D modelling / animation. A lot of these areas were new to me. Video and DVD production stuck with me after Uni, I was able to create ‘Motionic’ from what I learnt on this course. Another area was Game Design and 3D modeling, being a gamer this interested me a lot and in my spare time I worked on modifications with teams of amateur game designers.

After finishing my University course I tried to find work in the Games Industry, after a short contract at EA Games as a tester and about a year of searching I decided the Games Industry was not for me. In my spare time I was creating a flash based websites for friends, after some thought I started looking at jobs in Graphic Design. In December 2005 I was employed by SL Hardwoods (see the portfolio section) In 2007 I left SL Hardwoods and joined Thames Bathrooms Ltd, for whom I worked for until August of 2008.

Since leaving Thames Bathrooms I have been working freelance as a Graphic Designer and Photographer.
